besides all the hype on chess (and how much I love it), the queen's gambit is a depressing story: a beth's self-love journey. children often got into orphanage for the choices their parents made, or maybe, it's just another death on another day. it's not easy to jump out of the loop. if you lose your parents (or one of them) at such a young age, either they die or they leave or however you define it, you're just going to turn into a pitiful nobody to whomever children (or adults) you'd meet later in life. there's no room for sense of belonging, no doors, no windows — just walls. you're only lucky if you find someone who you can at least call family, or that someone finds you, and you become his or her favourite home.
such is life; a long yet a quiet journey to home.
